Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people and reached superstar status through his pop-folk songs based on folk, many of them based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell in New Mexico. He was enthralled by Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's songs for his home state has drawn a lot of people to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the hall's curator of fame, stated: "I don't believe there any other performer who embodies Colorado as John Denver." Denver, the Hall of Fame's first inductee, was honored with this honor in 2011. Today he personifies the state for people worldwide. When I travel, you will meet people on the other end of the world. For example someone from New Zealand. And when someone asks you if you're originally from Colorado you will get "Oh John Denver!" Brown declared. Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a brief period of performing with small folk music group was Take Me Home Country Roads composed by Bill Danoff. Danoff wrote the tune inspired by Johnny Cash, but Denver was able to hear an early version of the song and realized the song would be an instant hit in the top 10. The song was recorded by the singer only a few days afterward following a performance to the awe-inspiring crowd at Washington D.C.
